Times are a little tough right now but we still live in the best country in the world.  I hope you all get to pursue your happiness this long holiday weekend!

Daylight Saving Time…Fall Back

Don’t forget to turn your clocks back 1 hour this Saturday night so when you wake up Sunday morning you will be all set!

It’s also the perfect time to check the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms.

PS: Changing the clocks back reminds me of the first sci-fi flick: Metropolis. It’s gonna be a rainy-day weekend anyway…might be fun to curl up and watch a movie.

There’s nothing more American …..

..than Independence Day. Happy 4th of July everyone!

The closing paragraph of the Declaration of Independence, one of my favorite pieces of paper:

We, therefore, the Representatives of the united States of America, in General Congress, Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for the rectitude of our intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly publish and declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be Free and Independent States; that they are Absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political connection between them and the State of Great Britain, is and ought to be totally dissolved; and that as Free and Independent States, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which Independent States may of right do. And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.”

And from the Bill of Rights, another one of my favorite pieces of paper:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

Funny Construction Terms . . .

Are we playing poker or framing in a window? These terms crack me up . . .

King Stud : the first, full height stud on either side of a door or window opening.

Jack Stud : the short studs that support the header over a doorway or window opening. It’s also called a trimmer stud and it is attached to the king stud.

Cripple Stud : the short stud under a window or above a door opening.
